Welcome to Little Owl Class

Our topics and themes are based on the children's interests throughout the year as well as seasonal events. 

Topics in the past have included:

Spring Term 2

Week beginning 1st April 2019

This week we have been continuing to use hammers and screwdrivers but his time to find one more and one less than a given number. We have also been having fun in our new Numberblocks learning area.

Week beginning 25th March 2019

This week we have been busy using hammers and screwdrivers to help us practice reading tricky red words. We have also been dancing to different styles of music and comparing materials.

Week beginning 18th March 2019

WOW - what a busy week we've had.  We were very excited on Tuesday by the arrival of the HIGU (Historical Information Gathering Unit).  We came up with some brilliant questions to ask our 'expert' - Mr. FT.  We then completed sheets about ourselves that were later buried in the time capsule.  Our object from the HIGU was an old phone which we enjoyed trying out to phone Mrs Allison.  

On Wednesday we took part in two ceramics projects in St. Austell.  We got to make, paint and stamp clay tiles that will be part of a giant bee shaped mural.  We also helped to decorate some clay circles that will be turned into flowers.

 

Week beginning 11th March 2019

This week we have been using the balance scales to compare weight.  Supertato set us a challenge to find something heavier than him and something lighter than him.

Week beginning 4th March 2019

This week we created our own Supertato characters.  We have also been using words about direction, typing and practising reading and writing red words.

Week beginning 25th February 2019

We launched our new topic 'To the Rescue' with a superhero day.  We attended Supertato's training camp and then went on a mission to rescue Mrs. Willcocks from the Evil Pea.  We have also been creating Evil Pea traps, estimating and comparing the textures of materials.

Spring Term 1

Week beginning 11th February 2019

This week we have been launching balloon rockets.  We have also been comparing objects, measuring time in simple ways, reading red words and using different drawing media.

Week beginning 4th February 2019

This week we held an aeroplane flying competition.  We have also been exploring balancing, finding the total, painting on different materials and ordering objects by height and length.

Week beginning 28th January 2019

This week we have been learning about the story of Noah's Ark, which we retold through dance.  We have also been exploring sinking and floating, using different thicknesses of paintbrush and ordering numbers.

Week beginning 21st January 2019

This week we have been finding out how to cross the road safely.  We went for a walk so that we could practise.  We have also been moving Beebots from one place to another and measuring short periods of time using sand timers and stop watches.

Week beginning 14th January 2019

This week we have been looking at old and new vehicles.  We have also been junk modelling, learning to find the total and practising our cutting skills.

Week beginning 7th January 2019

We launched our new topic 'Amazing Machines' by creating cardboard vehicles and playing with remote control cars.  This week we have also been learning to take photos on the iPads, print, order numbers and continue repeating patterns.

Autumn Term 2

Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year from Little Owl Class.

Week beginning 10th December 2018

This week we have been performing our nativity play "It's a Baby" to our family and friends.  We also had a special treat day on Thursday.  As part of this we had a visit from the Screech Owl Sanctuary.  We loved meeting some real owls.

This week we have been getting the classroom ready for Christmas.  We hope you enjoy the pictures.

Week beginning 26th November 2018

This week we have been thinking about Advent.  We talked about how we get ready for Christmas.  We have also been busy rehearsing our Nativity play.

Week beginning 19th November 2018

This week we have been thinking about Hanukkah.  We found out about how this festival is celebrated and had a go at playing a game with a dreidel.

Week beginning 12th November 2018

This week we have been thinking about Diwali.  We found out about how this festival is celebrated and listened to the story of Rama and Sita.  We then created rangoli patterns using skittles.

Week beginning 5th November 2018

This week we have been thinking about Bonfire Night.  We went outside and had our own fire with toasted marshmallows.  We have also been creating firework art.

Week beginning 29th October 2018

This week we launched our new topic - Celebrations.  We were all invited to Big Owl's birthday party.  We had to wrap presents, write cards, make sandwiches and decorate the classroom.  We then got dressed up in our party clothes and enjoyed party games and food.

Autumn Term 1

Week beginning 15th October 2018

This week our theme has been the 3 Little Pigs and so we have been practising our hammering skills.  We have also been using rolling pins and cookie cutters.

Week beginning 8th October 2018

This week our theme has been the Little Red Hen.  We made our own bread and had fun outside with flour.  We have also been thinking about Harvest as part of this and went to the Lost Gardens of Heligan to look at their harvest displays.

Week beginning 1st October 2018

This week our theme has been the Billy Goats Gruff.  We went outside in the garden area and made troll heads and bridges.  On Tuesday we went for a walk to find some fresh green grass.  What a surprise we got when we arrived at the bridge!!

Week beginning 24th September 2018

This week our theme has been Goldilocks and  the 3 Bears.  We went outside in the garden area and made 'natural' porridge. We then came back in and cooked some real porridge.  It was yummy.

Week beginning 17th September 2018

We went on a sound hunt this week to see if we could find any sounds we have learnt.  We have also been investigating the balance scales, flipping frogs, making Duplo vehicles and practising reading and writing our sounds.

Week beginning 10th September 2018

What a busy week we have had!  We have learnt our first five sounds in Read Write Inc, had the apparatus out in PE and enjoyed playing in the garden area.

Week beginning 3rd September 2018

Congratulations to all our new children who have completed their first week at school.

We have been getting to know each other and making new friends.
