Welcome to Kestrel Class.
The teaching staff in Kestrel class are Miss Lynham and Mrs Bunt.
The term ahead:
We have a very exciting and enriching curriculum planned for the term ahead, beginning with our topic 'Stone Age to Iron Age' . During the term we are fortunate to benefit from a coach from Plymouth Argyle coming to support the children's PE. Kestrel class will continue to benefit from a weekly Spanish lesson.
We continue to focus on reading in Kestrel class, and ask that children read as often as possible. Dojos are awarded to children weekly based on the number of home reads. The children are welcome to write in their reading records, we just ask that you initial to say you have heard them read. Only initialled home reads will count towards Dojos. We have taken care in supporting the children to select a book suitable to their reading capabilities and they are encouraged to return this when they have finished the book so that the teaching staff can support them in choosing another book. Kestrel class will need to bring their reading books and reading records to school daily in order for in class reading to take place. We try to promote a love of reading in Kestrel class and encourage pupils to use the book swap and class library to choose books to take home to share with you at home.
Spellings will be sent home for children to learn on a Friday and in class assessment using a range of forms will take place the following Friday.
It is important that pupils practise their timetables at home as well as at School. In school we use a range of different strategies to support pupils to learn their times tables and corresponding division facts. The children all have a log in to TimesTableRockstars which can be accessed both in school and at home. You can see a guide to TTRockstars here.
Set task - The children have homework books and are set a homework task (this varies and can be maths, English or topic based) on a Friday to be returned the following Thursday. Dojos are awarded for completed homework.
Kestrel class will require their PE kits on a Monday and Thursday of each, as previously mentioned the children will benefit, during the first half term, a coach from Plymouth Argyle coming to facilitate the children's learning.
As you know Dojo is well established in Kestrel class and works alongside our class behaviour chart. Where possible we try to update Dojo with pieces of your child's learning and extra-curricular activities around school. Photos and information about trips/events can be added. There is a whole class page and pupil portfolio pages (pupil portfolio pages can only be seen by parents of that child and the teacher). You child will only be able to log into Dojo and change their avatar once their parent/carer has logged in. If you require an additional copy of log in details for yourself or your child/children please ask Mrs Young in the office.
